Just a concept/idea drawing I sketched for a sci fi character I want to create. The character is centered around  a sci fi story I am currently writing. It is a female android humanoid I call ANRI3. This humanoid is solar powered and proceses information using nano technology and quantum computing.

In this post I am going to talk about some of my favorite sci fi and animation films. The first of the films that come to mind as my all time favorites would be the Star Wars series. Star Wars to me was not just about the sci fi genere which I have always had an interest in. The films featured fantastic visions of future technology as well as cutting edge revolutionary cinematic techniques.
More recently, I viewed a video titled Appleseed Ex-Machina, the film is in the Japanese animation genere and is presented in stunning cg. The film produced by Japanese producer Shinji Aramaki is a must see for fans of sci fi and anime. Another film I really enjoyed was Tron, a remake of the classic which was released back in 1982 starring Jeff Bridges who is also featured as a main character in the remake. The cg effects blended with real life in 3d is pure eye candy.
My short list would not be complete if I didn't mention Avatar. Great 3d, the story had a lot of substance to it and the visuals were spectacular.
Next I will comment on the Transfomer series. Unfortunately, my eager anticipation was met with disapointment. In the last edition, the special fx were quite impressive but many of the action seens were overdone and the plot was clumsy. Its seemed the action and explosions were strewn throughout a weakly written plot. I found myself doing what I never do at the movies ie, snooze. Any excuse to excite and dazzle without much thought.
Finally a film that at first I had some reservations about seeing was Real Steel starring Hugh Jackman. The story is about an ex-down and out boxer who owns a robot which looked like it was ready for the junk heap manages to enter a big time robot fight match. The story is about the classic underdog who makes it big and overcomes insurmountable odds to achieve greatness and quirky notoriety. This film to me was quite simply put, the direct antithesis of Transformers.

As many who follow Japanese tech culture know, Japan is a robot mania country, from industrial robots to hobby robots kits one can buy, assemble and program. My personal interests in robotics of which I am involved in myself has influenced a lot of my designs and illustrations. My art work is also a way for me to express some of the activities and interest I am passionate about. I feel that to create something and give it maximum effort, it is important to find something one can get excited about each and every day.
My designs reflect both my interests in Japanese culture and sci fi subjects which includes robots and cyborgs.
What excites you?

I did a quick sketch study of the popular anime character Hatsune Miku. I am planning on creating an anime character of my own for a sci fi story I am currently composing. Hope to put it up soon for all to view.

I created a design for CyberSamurai which I think has some interesting design elements as well as composition. I placed this design on a t-shirt, if you like, follow the link and check it out. I also placed a similar design on an iPhone 4 case.
This a color version of my CyberSamurai design which I posted earlier. I mentioned that a duotone color scheme might have more visual impact, however, I  feel that this  color version has it's own visual merits as well. What do think?

This is a new design for my CyberSamurai character. I originally created this image in 4 color process but felt that a duotone would have more visual impact. The character depicts a samurai warrior of the future, a cyborg samurai. Hope you like it.

Art meets Science
I once met a physics professor at Fullerton College in Califonia who explained to me that the most difficult concept for students of physics to grasp was the idea that all things in the universe are connected. Everything in the physical world is the result of everything else. This idea was introduced to me by an instructer at Art Center College of Design. I was taking a life drawing class at the time and the teacher explained to the class that the negative space was just as important as the positive space in a drawing or sketch. Everything the universe is connected, everything in the physical world is a result of everything else, one object in space defines another.

I am working on a logo for my cybersamurai  character. This a first concept design I created. The look and feel I'm after is sort of a high tech futuristic quality, as well as a symbol of strength and fortitude.
If you like, feel free to leave a suggestion or comment on this design idea.

My interest as an artists/illustrator centers around sci fi (science fiction), and futuristic themes as well as Japanese design. I attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California as an illustration major. During my studies at Art Center, I was inspired by the works of Syd Mead a futuristic illustrator and industrial designer who also got his training at Art Center. His vision of the future was always cutting edge, pushing the boundaries of the imagination. Mead's drawing style was clean, loose and slick.
Beyond Art Center, I worked as a graphic designer for many years. I spent seven of those years working in the bicycle components industry as an art director in their advertising department and later as a marketing coordinator for a Japanese manufacturing company Panaracer, a subsidiary  of Panasonic. Now I am busy working as a freelance web designer as well as crafting my own unique style of art. I will be posting my creations frequently, so please stop by and pay a visit.
In this design, I wanted to create a sort of loose duotone sketchy feel to my CyberSamurai character. I think it works very well. I like  experimenting with various techniques and found this to be cool and appealing.
I have made this design available on
a t-shirt as well as an iPad case.

Ronin Samurai
I created this design depicting a ronin samurai
in the manga style. Tried to keep it a simple clean
line drawing. I placed the design on a t-shirt. Hope
you like it.

Tokyo sky Tree tower opened to the public in May of this year.
Last November I had the good fortune of seeing the tower from
a distance. It was truly a massive and impressive structure.
Located in the Sumida ward, it can be viewed from anywhere in Tokyo.
The design I created for the Sky Tree
has a very graphic feel to it. Not much
rendering but I felt it had more visual
impact if I kept it simple.
If you like the design, as usual, I made
it available on a t-shirt. It is also printed
on an iPhone 4 case. Hope you like it.
